Graduate research assistantship opportunity

Geophysical Institute and Department of Atmospheric

University of Alaska

A graduate research assistantship is available in the Geophysical Institute and Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The assistantship is part of a project investigating dynamics and coupling of the Arctic atmosphere and geospace that employs resonance and Rayleigh lidars. These lidars are operated as part of a suite of lidar, radar and imaging instruments by a team of researchers conducting meteorological and space weather studies at Poker Flat Research Range (PFRR). Rocket-borne investigations are also conducted at PFRR in coordination with the ground-based instrumentation. The successful applicant will work with a new sodium resonance wind-temperature lidar system that is operating at PFRR and have the opportunity to further improve the system as well as the scientific analysis and interpretation of the lidar measurements.
